You ask a hard question, my friend. While I totally and completely loved the first Jet9, I also totally and completely dig the Tallboy. The new Jet should be a solid competitor to the Tallboy--with Niner's trailworthy geometry and all, it won't feel "racy" yet it will perform racy.

Both will be killer bikes. I'm slated to get onboard a new Jet this Summer, so I'll let you know.

Hey Ben

I totally hear ya' on that one. Honestly, sizing is all over the place and most manufacturers rely on volume or uninflated measurements instead of measurements when they are inflated. I too have been surprised by the narrowness of some tires with claimed 2.35 or 2.4 sizes. But, once past the "this seems narrow" feel, they have consistently performed on the trail.

I've found myself to be content with 2.2 tires more often than I thought I would. For the most part, I prefer around a 2.3-ish tire for all-mountain ripping, but have found tires slightly narrower and slightly wider that have performed well.

Sometimes it takes a little faith and riding, which it seems, in the end, is what you did.

I ran a set of these on one of my bikes last season. I was pretty disappointed, however, when I installed and inflated them, as they were claimed to be 2.55" and they hardly measured 2.3". After riding on them I was pretty satisfied with them after all, but before ordering another set, I would sure like to have a guarantee of what I'm getting. Has WTB addressed the claimed sizing issue?

wow, I just worked a huge demo weekend in the Lake district in the uk, and was once again blown away by just how ggod the new 5 spot is. I've ridden all incarnations of it and can categorigally say it is by far the best. Maybe not the lightest, prettiest or cheapest but it IS amazing. Stiffer, more agressive, with more feedback, and more challenging than the older 4 bar horst link bike, more reactive, better on square edged stuff than the faux bar bike, this is THE turner to buy.... Horst link? What's that...

I hear ya man! I'm in the same boat... primarily ski in the backcountry now. But, with my kids getting to skiing age, I'm looking for cheap alternatives to paying for a lift ticket when most of the time is currently spent schusshing around the bunny hill.

Alta's Ski Free after 3 program is awesome for this!

Mine have stayed dry on the inside, but the DWR finish on all fabrics will eventually let some water soak into the fabric, but be blocked by the Outdry membrane. I've found these to be excellent, but the outer fabric can get saturated (while your digits remain dry).
