Well... the active during braking thing may dissuade you from going with a Transition or 575. You'll be hard-pressed to discover the brake-jack unless you really ride hard (DH-style), but it will show its face on occasion with any single-pivot design.

If you are considering an all-mountain bike and want active braking with enough burl to handle some stout terrain, yet remain agile enough to tackle XC stuff, I'd say look at these:

Pivot Mach 5
Ibis Mojo
Santa Cruz Blur LT Carbon
Trek Remedy
Trek Fuel EX

But, active braking is really a minor detail, IMO, so I wouldn't want to sway your opinion away from the Yeti 575 or the new Yeti ASR 5C--both of which will fit the bill for you.

Currently own a Gary Fisher HiFi bike with a few mods (joplin seatpost, Atlas crank, nevegal 21. rear/ 2.35 front and so on) to make it more "all-mountain friendly". I have been everywhere on this bike (whistler A-line with the brakes on, mostly XC trails though ) but wish to aquire something that is burlier and more confident during descents without sacrificing too much climbing efficiency. I Have had my eye on the new Yeti 575 but the transition covert recently caught my eye as well. Any suggestions? I would be building either from the frame up, most likely with a fox 32talas 150mm. A breakdown of the two or even a suggestion would be greatly appreciated
