Highgear Axio and Axio Mini Altimeter Watches - Fall 2008

02.01.08 | Author: Jason Mitchell

Fall 2008 will see the launch of an entirely-new and stylish watch model from Highgear built for both men and women. The Highgear Axio and Axio Mini watches are built from an entirely-new design with the intent of providing a technical altimeter watch all wrapped up in a wearable and good looking package.

Most importantly, the Axio Mini will be the smallest and lightest women’s-specific altimeter watch (as far as I know, it may be the only women’s-specific altimeter watch). All altimeter watches to date have been much too large for a woman to wear off the mountain. When FeedTheHabit.com was still selling altimeter watches, I got several of them returned from women who just couldn’t bear the size of the watch on their wrists.

The Axio Mini aims to solve that problem by providing a basic altimeter watch that fits smaller wrists and also looks good. The case is built from thru-color molded plastic and is a tad thicker than a typical sports watch, but not much. It comes with a rubber strap and mineral glass face to avoid scratches. And, just so you don’t think this is entirely a woman’s thing, the Axio standard will also be smart and stylish for us menfolk.

We’ve finally made a mountain-specific watch that not only comes with a full array of useful functions, but is also uniquely a women’s instrument (Highgear Axio Mini). It’s great in the backcountry, and it works on the street. I think we put just as much thought into how it would compliment women’s specific outerwear and technical gear as it would a woman’s need for high performance altimeter technology.” - Mike Hosey, President of Highgear
