You're definitely right on the terrain --- Solitude doesn't have the same vertical or terrain as Alta. But you've gotta agree that it is often a zoo. After hundreds of days at Alta over my life, I can say you are right --- you CAN find snow days after a storm at Alta. Just not usually during Christmas week when every ego-kid from Alta High School is there, and not without hiking out to Catherines.

Solitude sucks hardcore. There is little vertical when compared to the other three resorts within the greater salt lake city area. Hit up Alta if you want the true skiing experience. I don't know what this guy was saying about it getting tracked up quick. I found tons of powder days after a storm.

Here's a pic I took this Saturday as we crossed through Solitude during our backcountry super tour:

<img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9tDhSRKubdo/SaHmL9Vdi0I/AAAAAAAABLk/x7CnfJgga40/s640/P1020104.JPG" alt="No Lift Lines on a Saturday at Solitude Mountain Resort" width="500"/>

Looks like the Solitude I've experienced every time I've been there. There may be an occasional lift line, but this has been the norm in all the years I've skied at Solitude.

@Jim... I can understand your ire... believe me. Many skiers are particularly sensitive about promoting their "local stash", etc., but Solitude still remains the quiet little resort along the Wasatch front. Yeah, you'll have lift lines, but nothing like those at other hills on a busy holiday or Saturday. And, with the new high-speed lifts on the frontside, lift lines are still pretty short.

Solitude needs to grow to remain competitive and grow they will. I'm sure they will compensate with improved infrastructure to maintain the <em>"Solitude Experience."</em>

Solitude is busy enough without you promoting it. They days of no lift lines are in the past.
