Bruce Tremper is one of the premiere avalanche forecasters in the world. His field work in Utah’s Wasatch mountains provides all backcountry travelers with a great start towards making smart choices in the backcountry. Take some time and read the Utah Avalanche Center’s Daily Report before heading out. That’s obvious.
But, once you get out there, do you know what else to look for and be careful of? I’m definitely no expert, but I try to keep myself on top of all current conditions and always use the safest route-finding and skiing practices. You can never be 100% safe, but then again, you can never be 100% safe driving a car down...

It’s no secret that we favor skiing in Utah. Each year I have friends from Washington, Canada, Colorado, Jackson who all ask if I’m going to be making a trip to ski with them. It’s not that I don’t want to explore new areas and it’s not that I don’t want to ski with my buddies. Truth is every time I do want to ski somewhere else it means sacrificing easy access and generally better snow by leaving Utah.
That’s not to say that I haven’t scored the goods elsewhere. There...

It’s a new year and a new twist on the X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival. The voting for the Short Film Festival kicks off today on nossaTV, as five carefully selected filmmakers and their short films will compete for the ultimate big break, a fully paid trip to Los Angeles and a full slate of meetings with the movers and shakers of the film industry.
“X-Dance is the centerpiece of actions sports filmmaking,” says Constantine Papanicolaou, winner of the 2006 X-Dance Short Film Festival, who won meetings with action sports industry players and a tour of Studio 411. His meetings resulted in financial backing...

To be honest, Deer Valley is one of my favorite places to ski in Utah. What?!?! Me, a pow-seeking, backcountry-loving skier like skiing at Deer Valley? Yessir… the place is near the top of my list if given the choice on any day of the week. Here’s why: the grooming is impeccable, the service is as good as it gets, but most importantly, nobody does tree skiing quite like Deer Valley.
And, tree skiing is exactly the reason why the all-new Lady Morgan Express chairlift was put in. Its 1150 vertical feet gives skiers access to 200 more skiable acres. Not just an impeccably-groomed 200 acres, we’re talking about 200...

After years of admiring the man, the legend, Ryan Leech on The Collective and Roam mountain bike films, I finally got a chance to chat with him at Interbike 2007 in Las Vegas. He was hanging out at the Norco booth at the Outdoor Demo, so I chatted with him briefly about what he was up to. He told me a bit about his new video, Crux and we talked about this and that. Ryan is a stellar person and a genuine ambassador of the sport of mountain biking. Norco is definitely stoked to have him on their athlete team.
I am a little late to the party with...

If you’ve ever been to a World Cup or Olympic downhill race, you understand first-hand how extremely dangerous competitive downhill racing is. These guys and gals are hauling down the steepest slopes arcing turns at 80 mph and winning or losing by a fraction of a second. They are riding a thin line between being on the top of their game and being hauled off in a stretcher.
The legends like Kjetil André Aamodt, Franz Klammer, Lasse Kjuss, Hermann Maier, Phil Mahre, Daron Rahlves, Bode Miller and Picabo Street make it look easy to the common man, but believe me…...

A good friend sent me this video of Sage Cattabriga-Alosa ripping up Southern Utah on two wheels instead of two planks. The guy rips it up in TGR films every year, but I had no idea he had such killer bike skills. Sage is a good friend of FeedTheHabit.com and has supported many of the TGR film premieres we’ve done over the years. He’s a great ambassador of skiing and always has a smile on his face.
As you will hear in the video, his favorite word is “AWESOME”, which pretty much characterizes his great attitude as he has fun skiing and biking with his friends, Matt Collins (another one of ...

Kjus Skiwear launched a new promotional video displaying the beauty of skiing the mountains of Norway’s Lofoten Islands. The terrain is steep, rocky and super technical. The snow… well, while it’s not AK quality, the geography of the region lends itself well to some amazing videography. The result? A pretty cool ski video that features many Kjus team riders including them an himself, Lasse Kjus, and Norwegian freeskier, Fredrik Luykis.
The terrain is amazing and the video shows the beauty of the area as well as the technical skiing abilities of the featured riders. Definitely worth the five minutes or so to watch. I dig some of the technical, rocky lines they ski–especially considering...
