Back in 2015, we tested (and loved) the Santa Cruz Stigmata. That bike opened our minds to just what a modern road/gravel/cyclocross bike could be. Fast-forward to 2019 and the gravel scene is all the rage with increasing tire clearance and stable manners on every type of road or trail. Santa Cruz has re-developed the Stigmata and Juliana Quincy to meet these modern needs and provide bikes for men and women looking to push their limits everywhere.
Increased Tire Clearance, New Layup, Threaded BB & More
Tire clearance is top-of-mind to all riders (not just gravel) and the all-new Stigmata/Juliana deliver with the ability to fit up to 700 x 45mm or 650b x 2.1″ treads. Fender mounts are included, so if you roll with fenders, clearance will be reduced (of course). The carbon layup is entirely-new as are fork offsets for smaller frames to ensure toe clearance in tight situations.
Everyone is hating on press-fit bottom brackets and Santa Cruz is going with the 68mm threaded variety here — as they have done with their other bikes. There are also now three sets of water bottle bosses for epic days in the saddle.
Rounding things out, there’s routing for a 27.2 dropper post and direct-mount front derailleurs have been ditched in favor of clamp-on models. Rounding out some of the changes, the Stigmata and Quincy now feature 12mm thru-axles and flat mount brakes (no surprises here as these are the settled-upon standards since the last version was released).
