Well-built trail gloves feature everything you could want.

    Protection and touch screen-friendly

Lizard Skins is really making a name for themselves in overall rider protection. As a company that started out protecting your frame, they now have a wide variety of rider protection for all types of riders. The Monitor AM gloves are all-mountain friendly with enough mesh to breathe as well.

Initial impressions weren’t as stellar as I would have hoped. Most gloves take some break-in time before feeling natural. These needed that, but some of the seams felt overly bulky. That feeling faded somewhat, but there’s no getting away from the seams around each finger — I can still feel them on each finger.

Lizard Skins Monitor AM’s in the AM.

Speaking of the fingers, they feature an hourglass shape to give each finger a secure fit. It works well — removing any excess slop you might develop with straight-cut fingers. It also aids in pre-curving the fingers to deliver a more natural fit. The Velcro tab does a great job of securing the cuff.

The cuffs have a pull tab that makes it easier to put them on and on the bike, I have no complaints on how they feel with a variety of grips. As far as padding goes, these do have some padding, but no gel material.

The full Monitor lineup consists of the Monitor, Monitor AM, Monitor SL, Monitor SL Gel and Monitor HD. So, pick your favorite protection and comfort and off you go. The Monitor AM represents the sweet spot in the glove line.

    The Good

    • Tried-and-true design
    • Killer touchscreen sensitivity
    • Good, ergonomic fit

    The Bad

    • Seams are readily felt

The Bottom Line: Lizard Skins Monitor AM Gloves

You know it’s time to get a new pair of gloves when yours look more like Swiss Cheese than a sturdy pair of gloves. Lizard Skins has a variety of gloves and grips and the Monitor AM is a great all-around choice.
