    Review: Osmo Power Fuel Mix

Jason MitchellBy Jason MitchellSeptember 13, 2023No Comments3 Mins Read

Osmo Nutrition has been through quite the journey since they began in 2012. But now, in 2023, Osmo’s tight product line aims to fuel, hydrate aid the recovery of high-level athletes worldwide. Their Active Hydration is available in four mild-tasting flavors and Osmo Power Fuel is made to work with them or alone for long-lasting energy.

    Osmo Power Fuel Mix Contents:

    • Three simple ingredients – cluster dextrin, sodium and fructose
    • Cluster dextrin has high absorption rates
    • Quick carbs without GI issues
    • Mix with Active Hydration, Rapid Recovery or use alone
    • Available with or without caffeine
    • MSRP: $35 (16 serving pouch)

    Caffeine or no caffeine?

Osmo’s Power Fuel Mix is much like those I’ve used from other brands, like SiS Beta Fuel and Styrkr Dual-Carb mixes. Of course, the formulas differ, but the outcome is very similar. Power Fuel is “unflavored” but it tastes like a Fun Dip stick to me. With that, Osmo intends to have you make your own choice — alone, or mixed with one of their Active Hydration flavors.

I appreciate that it’s offered with or without caffeine. I chose one or the other based on the intensity of the ride and my energy levels. If the ride involved a lot of climbing over 2 or more hours, I went with caffeine. If it wasn’t as intense, no caffeine. Osmo has chosen to only include a modest amount of caffeine per serving (70 mg for the single-serving packets tested). To me, that’s just the right amount for quick energy without a crash.

    The caffeinated mix.

Mixing it up is a little more involved than other powders I’ve tried. While Gnarly Nutrition remains granular, Osmo Power Fuel can stay clumpy if not mixed up thoroughly. The usual process of mix, then water, followed by a good, stiff shake didn’t usually work for me. As you can see, floaties remained — sometimes even after a long ride.

Mix carefully and vigorously or you’ll have snow globe blobs.

I reached out to Osmo and this is what they recommended to reduce those chunks that you see above:

“We have found if you put in half the powder and shake vigorously, and then add the remaining powder and shake again it should help the issue. Also, for better mixing, let it sit for 15 min.”

I followed that procedure with better results. I have also dropped an ice cube in there for added mixing power. In the end, I figured it out and loved the smooth taste. I also never experienced any GI issues whatsoever. I felt consistent, sustained energy and looked forward to its use every time.

    The Good:

    • Drinks smooth
    • No stomach issues for me
    • Caffeinated option
    • Can mix with hydration for added flavor and electrolytes

    The Bad:

    • Careful mixing required, or it looks like a snow globe

The Bottom Line: Osmo Power Fuel

Osmo Power Fuel is available with or without caffeine — depending on your needs. With a smooth-tasting, plain flavor, it can be mixed with flavors if you wish or taken alone. Just make sure you take extra time to mix it properly.
