Style, fit and summer comfort
As usual, this summer was filled with warm morning and some scorching afternoon rides. With an array of summer jerseys in the closet, the Velocio Ombre Ultralight Mesh Jersey has been a great one to have in the mix. For starters, the fit is excellent and is a mix between race and club fit and it has all the other goodies you’d expect from Velocio.
Pulling it on, the size medium fits true-to-size and delivers a streamlined fit without turning me into a sausage. The sleeves are a good, modern length and the overall hem length is just right. Unlike some jerseys, Velocio has kept full silicone all the way around the hem. Because of that, your midsection remains covered on and off the bike while stretching, reaching and riding — thank you!

The mesh fabric is certainly breathable, but it’s not quite as breathable as a true climber’s jersey like Sportful Light Pro Jersey. I did some head-to-head hot-weather testing and found the Velocio Ombre Ultralight Mesh to be on par with similar jerseys, like the Pearl Izumi Attack Air Jersey. Still, airflow is good and the jersey does well in warm weather — thanks to the no collar design and mesh fabric.

Velocio’s pocket designs are unique. The folded-over top has silicone on it to keep items from slipping out. This is particularly helpful when stashing a wind jacket back there since it stays snug. I didn’t have any trouble gaining access to any of the pockets and found their width to be outstanding for both access and stowage. Still, the pockets aren’t bellowed, so don’t expect to carry the kitchen sink with this jersey. The zippered pocket features a waterproof layer to keep the worst your body can do from saturating your wallet or valuables stashed in there.

The fabric-backed front zipper does keep the zipper from snagging chest hair or base layers, but I do believe it reduces airflow. And, the upper and lower zipper garages do make it difficult to pull the zipper. I’d suggest a touch longer zipper pull to clear the fabric for easier access.
Fit: I’m 5’11” and 173 lbs. wearing the size medium jersey.
The Good:
- Collarless design
- Mesh fabric breathes well
- Pockets are wide and easily-reached
- Full-width silicone hem keeps things in place
- Pocket lids keep items in place
The Bad:
- Not as light/breathable as a true climber’s jersey (but more comfortable)
- Front zipper backing reduces airflow
- Zipper garages make the zipper pull hard to find
The Bottom Line: Velocio Ombre Ultralight Mesh Jersey
For those warm rides, the Velocio Ombre Ultralight Mesh Jersey is a great option. The collarless design and mesh fabric allows ample airflow for most warm-weather conditions. You will want a base layer once temperatures drop, but the Ombre Ultralight Mesh Jersey has been good overall for everything I’ve thrown its way.
