Tidy little Cycle Cube gets it done.

    Cycle Cube to the Rescue

When traveling, it can often be a challenge to make sure that all the proper gear makes it from point A to point B intact. Mountainsmith really nailed the needed organization with their Cycle Cube. The main compartment features an adjustable divider that can easily swallow a couple pairs of shoes, helmet and enough space for multiple cycling kits or extra changes of clothing for off-bike activities.

I loved being able to drop my shoes into the ventilated side with a saddle bag and another pair of casual shoes while the other side carried a cycling kit and enough clothes for four days of regular life. With a couple of trips under my belt with the Cycle Cube, the culmination was a weekend of gravel riding in Southwest Minnesota.

    Minnesota Gravel Riding
Everything I needed for a weekend of Minnesota gravel.

When riding Midwest gravel in early June, it’s important to have the proper layers because mornings can be cool and rainstorms are common. As usual, it’s also critical to have extra tubes, energy gels and a variety of other bits.

Pockets and storage galore are perfect for hauling your bike gear.

The large side compartments feature full-depth zippers for easy access to the mesh pockets — each one perfectly-sized for a couple of tubes or other small items. I used each pocket to the maximum because there really is a place for everything and everything in its place.

Tons of laser-cut vents keep the shoe side airy.

While it’s easy to open the zippers by pulling on them, I did wish for non-locking zippers on the main compartment so I could pull the lid open. You wouldn’t want that on the end compartments, but the top lid would be nice. Also, this one is large enough not to be carry-on friendly, so don’t get any ideas of carrying it onto the plane.

    The Good

    • Killer organization pockets everywhere
    • A place for everything and everything in its place
    • Adjustable main compartment is awesome
    • Ventilated shoe compartment area
    • Durable materials

    The Bad

    • Doesn’t come with shoulder strap
    • Wished I could pull the main compartment open

The Bottom Line: Mountainsmith Cycle Cube

If you have bike trips in your future, you owe yourself to pick up something like the Mountainsmith Cycle Cube. Organization is perfect with just the right variety of pockets to store shoes, helmets and misc. parts for a weekend on two wheels.
