Hot on the heels of the all-new Trek Domane SLR comes a stealth eBike iteration of the venerable cobble-crusher. Built with a road bike-tuned version of the TQ-Group motor we saw in the Trek Fuel EXe, the 2023 Trek Domane+ SLR eBike is in for review and now available at Trek dealers worldwide.
Just like the Fuel EXe, the Domane+ looks just like a regular bike from a distance. The only major indicator is the extra large down tube and the hardly-noticeable TQ motor on the non-driveside. Expect a 10 lb weight gain for the Domane+ with the 56cm test bike weighing in at 26.2 lbs. No, it’s not a 16 lb. traditional Domane SLR, but 26 lbs. is extremely light for an electric road bike.
With a range of 60 miles in eco mode, the TQ harmonic system can provide assist up to 28 mph. For shorter distances, the boost can be increased using the bar-mounted buttons. A quick ride revealed that the Domane+ does ride extremely well, but does feel dead compared to the traditional Domane SLR. With a downtube full of batteries, that’s to be expected. Still, that instant power is promising for longer sessions. And, with 40mm tire clearance, this can be a fun gravel crusher. Many more road and gravel miles lie ahead, so time will tell just how fun this new eBike will truly be.
