After riding under wraps during the biggest World Tour races this summer, the Swiss company is ready to share their latest aero all-rounder. Jointly-built with the help of Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT), the BMC Teammachine R is an aero bike that stretches what’s possible for an all-rounder. With deeper tube sections and other unique touches, the Teammachine R aims to add watts that we didn’t know were possible. Leveraging knowledge from Formula 1 racing, this new bike is built to “create speed.”
The most striking features are clearly visible; a deep head tube, extra-wide fork legs, tire-hugging seat tube, a tapered top tube and even integrated bottle cages. For starters, let’s double-tap on the fork. It’s wide, for sure and has a uniquely-chiseled crown. BMC calls it their Halo Fork and it’s aimed for one thing only — aerodynamics. BMC says they “increased the inner fork spacing to allow turbulent air to be shuttered away from the frame and reduce aero stall. The result is cleaner air that hugs the frame longer resulting in a significant drag reduction.” We’ve seen this with track bikes, but now we’re seeing it in pure race bikes.

The wide fork isn’t the only story to be told. With all that shaping and carbon bits, you’d think the frame would be portly. Well, let’s just say it’s not the lightest bike in the peloton, but a 54cm frame tips the scales at 910 grams with a 395 gram fork. Complete bikes can be built under 16 lbs to both conquer the toughest climbs and fly through flat or rolling terrain in a way no other BMC has before it. Yes, the 2024 Teammachine R is built different.

Rounding out some of the top features of this new bike, here are additional highlights:
- Mariana Bottom Bracket delivers a sled-like platform to deliver even more power to the rear wheel
- Updated geometry offers a minimally-taller stack and shorter reach
- Handling remains race-oriented for the most demanding riders
- Optimized frontal tube shapes with (of course) fully-internal cable routing
- Ultra-narrow ICS Carbon Aero integrated bar/stem
- New seatpost with revised clamp design (looks better than the sticky one on the Roadmachine X)
- Stealth dropouts
- Aerocore Design with integrated bottle cages
- 30mm tire clearance (measured)
- Hits the sweet spot between aero, compliance, lightweight and stiffness
- Electronic groupsets only
- Available complete from $9199 (Ulegra Di2) to $14,999 (Red), with a $5999 frameset option
