Fresh Wheels: Campagnolo Levante Gravel Wheelset

Jason MitchellBy Jason MitchellApril 29, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

Campagnolo isn’t wasting any time capitalizing on their recent successes during the bike boom. Tops on that list is certainly their Ekar 13-speed gravel groupset, which has opened up Campagnolo to a new, growing segment of riders. To that end, the all-new Campangolo Levante gravel wheelset has all the right moves to make a splash into the gravel scene. The right wheelset is key to being able to transition from road to gravel and singletrack with confidence. And, the proper inner width and tubeless compatibility are also tops on everyone’s minds.

With the Campagnolo Levante wheelset, you’re also getting high-performance wheels that are built entirely in Europe. Not only is that a boon for their local factories in Italy and Romania, but it’s great news for you and I since current availability is likely be better than other wheelsets coming from Asia. At some point our supply chain mess will sort itself out, but long-term it’s also great knowing you are supporting skilled workers in the EU and not in China.

The question of the day is always internal rim width. You’ll be stoked to know it’s a generous 25mm to deliver a fuller tire profile. As these are intended to be gravel-specific, they do state compatibility with 38-76mm tires, but 30-38mm slicks should be good-to-go for winter training or occasional road duty. Basically, you can go with as big a tire as your frame allows with the Levante’s.

The Mini-Hook and C-Lux finish.

While it’s difficult to see in the rim profile, but the Levante’s do feature a “Mini-Hook” bead that’s completely compatible with ERTO clincher and tubeless safety standards. What that means is you can safely go tubeless or still use tubes and rock TLR or standard clincher tires of your choosing. In addition, the Hand Made Ultra-Light Carbon (H.U.L.C) features a C-Lux finish on all surfaces for a reduced finished weight due to not needing a clear coat and eliminating the need for rim tape.

Campagnolo Levante Rear Hub
Hubs feature cone-adjustable bearings and Centerlock rotor mounts.

The all-new Levante hubs give a nod to user-serviceability with standard, straight-pull spokes and external nipples. Adjustable pre-load with cup-and-cone bearings also are a hallmark of Campagnolo’s focus on the user. Plus, the N3W freehub body works with 11, 12 and 13-speed Campagnolo cassettes out of the box. Shimano and SRAM drivers are available separately.
