A Rundown: New CLIF Bar Organic Lineup

Kevin GloverBy Kevin GloverApril 6, 2015No Comments3 Mins Read

Alright, we might as well just acknowledge that CLIF Bars are the staple food for adventurers everywhere. That said, people are caring more and more about what they eat – the foodie is becoming, well, just a normal person wanting to live right. CLIF believes that part of responsible living is responsible eating, and with that in mind they’ve formulated an entire new lineup of remarkable new products for outdoor pursuits.

CLIF Bar & Company aims to be a catalyst for a just and sustainable food system and believes that using organic ingredients connects healthy people to a healthy planet.

    New Organic CLIF Flavors:

The most familiar product in the new lineup, these two new flavors come packaged in the quintessential CLIF Bar aesthetic. Berry Pomegranate Chia and Nuts and Seeds both promise delicious and unique flavor experiences that pack all of the energy that I normally expect from my standard Carrot Cake. The Berry Pomegranate Chia is absolutely my favorite – the chia gives is a nice, consistent texture and the pomegranate really pops. On the whole, the new flavors are a refreshing departure from the normal chocolate and peanut butter and, like the rest of the lineup, they’re crafted with organic ingredients.

    CLIF Organic Energy Food:

The most striking of CLIF’s 2015 offerings, these four different flavors all come a la gel in resealable pouches. The spark for the flavors came from the homemade trail favorites that CLIF’s athletes make for themselves – savory flavors like Banana, Beet and Ginger hit the tongue like a bullet after years and years of sweet energy products. I was very impressed with the results – the packets are surprisingly hearty and I usually had to sip them over the course of a good ten minutes. They are also incredibly high in salt (Pizza Margherita has 25% DV!) so make sure to chase these with plenty of water.

    The new flavors are:

    • Banana Beet with Ginger
    • Banana Mango with Coconut
    • Pizza Margherita
    • Sweet Potato with Sea Salt

    CLIF Organic Trail Mix Bar:

The CLIF Organic Trail Mix Bar is available in seven flavors – Coconut Almond Peanut, Cranberry Almond, Dark Chocolate Almond Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate Cherry Almond, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter, Dark Chocolate Pomegranate Raspberry, and Wild Blueberry Almond. The wonderful folks at Clif sent over one of each to try and I was very impressed.

Most of the flavors have enough salt to keep your electrolytes up but there’s nothing overpowering about any of these bars – flavors like dark chocolate with cherries and almonds are not known to blow down the barn door. I’ve taken these on plenty of mountain bike trips, but the bars are so good and feel so healthy that I enjoy them the most as a quick snack on my way out the door.
