Outdoor Research Sequence Tee Shirt Review

    0
By Jason Mitchell on June 13, 2008 Gear Reviews, Outdoors

A tee shirt is a tee shirt, right? I mean, that old, worn out tee shirt works just as well as a brand new one, right? Come on… how technical and how improved could a new shirt be over an old, broken-in and comfortable one? The answer to that question is a lot!

With all the new fibers combined with tried-and-true merino wool these days, the fit, comfort and function of the classic tee shirt has changed. Outdoor Research is leading the charge with their simple and functional Sequence Tee shirt. With a perfect blend of merino wool and polyester in a standard tee shirt, you can’t go wrong. Lets dig into how it performs.

Outdoor Research Sequence Merino Wool Tee Shirt Review

About the Outdoor Research Sequence Tee

Not content with just a simple tee shirt design, Outdoor Research put in a lot of thought into the design of the Sequence Tee. Lets start with the fabric. A combination of 88% polyester and 12% merino wool provides a “soft as cotton” feel with superior moisture management (nope… cotton doesn’t do that). This proprietary fabric concoction is called Dri-Release® Wool.

The entire shirt was re-thought to provide the best fit and function as well. There are no seams on the top of the shoulders, instead they are dropped to the front and back to be more comfortable with a pack on. Overall styling is simple and muted with only a small tag on the right sleeve and a rubbery OR logo on the hem.

Highlights of the Outdoor Research Sequence Tee Shirt

    • Lightweight Dri-Release® Wool fabric manages moisture, dries quickly
    • 88% polyester, 12% Merino wool for superior wicking and a cotton-like feel
    • Built-in FreshGuard® odor neutralization
    • Raglan sleeve
    • Weight: 5.6 oz./159 g (size L)
    • Colors: Aloe, Bluejay, Burnt Orange, Peat & Slate
    • MSRP: $35

Outdoor Research Sequence Tee Shirt Review

I’ve had two of these shirts for a few months now. Under a variety of activities, they have continued to perform well. My favorite part about these shirts is the fabric. You know that old, worn-in tee shirt that you love so much? Well that’s the way these shirts feel right out of the box. The Dri-Release Wool fabric is amazing in its softness and all-day comfort. There’s no tag on the back of the neck to drive you nuts either… a nice touch.

Trail running, the shirt feels lightweight and comfortable next to the skin with no chaffing of any sorts. It wicks away moisture quickly and efficiently. On the bike, the shirt feels comfortable under a hydration pack and feels comfortable even after a long uphill slog. Hiking with the kids it continues to provide the perfect base layer under the weight of my 14-month-old son in the Kelty FC 3.0 Kid Carrier.

Heck, I’ve even worn these shirts to the office and their muted styling looks great with a pair of jeans.

The size Large seems true to size, but I could have done well with a medium. For a dedicated bike shirt, some may wish for back pockets, but you can’t go wrong with this shirt for any type of athletic outdoor activity.

The Bottom Line: OR Sequence Tee Shirt

Seriously, ditch that old t-shirt and step up to a modern blend of new and classic materials. The Sequence Tee’s blend of polyester and merino wool is heavenly next to the skin. Plus, this shirt is super-versatile for any kind of outdoor activity you can drum up. Trail running, hiking, mountain biking or mowing the lawn, you will appreciate the moisture wicking fabric and durable construction of this shirt.
