Pearl Izumi Infinity LD Short Review
The Infinity LD – short for “long distance” – is Pearl Izumi’s mid-length running short, and designed for full days on the trail. With four pockets, there’s enough storage space for your car key, a couple of gels, a folded up map, or any other small necessities you need to get you through a multi-hour outing.
Of course, going long isn’t worth the trouble if your clothes aren’t comfortable to begin with, and the Infinity LD is one of the most comfortable shorts I’ve tested this summer. Its main panels are constructed with Pearl Izumi’s ELITE polyester, a very soft, lightweight material that uses a one-way moisture transfer design to enhance cooling and keep you comfortable even as the weather gets warm. The lining is composed of 50% Minerale, a fabric that dries 50% faster than normal performance polyester.
The waistband is very soft against the skin, with no irritation around my midsection even on high mileage days. There’s a stretch drawcord if you need to further dial in the fit, but I found the waistband elastic secure enough to stay in place without tying when the pockets are empty.
It’s nice to have a combination of zipper and Velcro pocket options: the zippers give peace of mind that your car key or gels won’t bounce out, and the Velcro allows quick access to items like tissues or a map. The only drawback I can see is that if all four pockets are loaded with heavier items like energy bars or a small flip phone, you’ll have a lot of bounce as you’re headed down the trail. My own preference for long trail outings is to wear a lightweight waist pack, where I stash most of the things I’d otherwise put in the Infinity LD pockets.

The storage aspect of Pearl Izumi’s Infinity LD shorts might be oversold, but the comfort aspect deserves legitimate praise. These shorts make it easy to spend all day on the trail, regardless of how much stuff you want to bring.
