Pearl Izumi PRO LTD In-R-Cool Jersey Review

Jason MitchellBy Jason MitchellJuly 21, 20112 Comments4 Mins Read

Road jerseys are meant to be form-fitting, but there’s a fine line between looking like a summer sausage and not. The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. LTD jersey does just that with the just the right fit for all-day comfort.

Pearl Izumi PRO LTD Jersey Features:

    • P.R.O. Transfer fabric with In-R-Cool® technology provides optimal cooling and sun protection by reflecting UV rays
    • Flatlock seams
    • Full length zipper for venting
    • Elasticized gripper on back to keep hem in place
    • Three back pockets with hidden sweat-proof pocket
    • Reflective piping
    • Colors: Prey Black (tested), Sustain Black, Sustain White
    • MSRP: $120

Pearl Izumi PRO LTD Road Jersey Review

Road jerseys can come in quite a spectrum of fits, styles and fabrics. Finding just the right combination can sometimes take quite a long process of trail-and-error. My previous bike jerseys have been suitable, but nothing flashy or expensive. And mostly, I didn’t know he wiser. None of them were particularly cheap, but none were as well-built as the Pearl Izumi PRO LTD jersey I’ve been wearing now.

I’ve been using the PRO LTD jersey in tandem with the PRO In-R-Cool bibs and have found the perfect combination for long and short rides.

Sizing-wise, I opted for the large jersey. I knew full well that this would be a snug fit and Pearl Izumi says so on their Web site — it does pay to heed their advice. It fits my 5’11” 170 lb frame perfectly with just the right coverage and snug-ness. The fit couldn’t be more perfect and I have amazing freedom-of-movement with no restricted feeling in any way whatsoever.

It’s a good thing that the PRO LTD features a full zip because even though the fit is spot-on, removing it when it’s sweaty would be very difficult without one. As it is, a full zip open and getting it on or off is a cinch.

I love the armbands and the length of the sleeves. They fit nicely and stay perfectly put. The hem is trimmed in grippy material that keeps it in place during most riding. The drop hem gives you extra length in the rear and helps keep things in place.

Wind resistance is excellent as I’ve worn this jersey in cool temperatures and felt great. on the other end of the spectrum, it also wicks away moisture to leave your skin feeling cool during Africa-hot days in the saddle. The In-R-Cool fabric really does a great job of moisture management — I’m a fan.

The only negative I found with this jersey is that after long descents, the jersey tends to creep up and start flapping in the wind at the tops of my shoulders. Somehow the wind just slowly allows the hem to creep up and get extra material atop my shoulders flapping in the 40mph wind. A quick tug puts everything back in place, but I wonder what might prevent that or what exactly may be causing that flappage at speed? I’ll test more theories and come back with some findings in the coming weeks.

    Good PRO LTD Jersey

    • In-R-Cool fabric wicks moisture very well
    • It seems to block wind well on cool morning rides
    • Full zip is perfect for easy on/off
    • Flat lock seams eliminate seam chaffage
    • Rear pockets properly secure items for worry-free storage
    • Fit is just perfect

    Bad PRO LTD Jersey

    • After a long downhill, it tended to ride up just a bit and flap in the wind at the shoulders

Bottom Line: Pearl Izumi PRO LTD Jersey

If you’re looking for a comfortable jersey that excels at cool temperatures as well as moisture management in the Summer heat, the Pearl Izumi PRO LTD In-R-Cool jersey is an excellent choice.
