POC AVIP Road Helmet and Apparel to Debut at Eurobike

Jason MitchellBy Jason MitchellAugust 23, 2013No Comments3 Mins Read

As the Volvo of cycling and ski protection, POC Sports is entering the road bike market with purpose. That purpose is protecting your body from inevitable crashes. Recently signing 2012 Giro d’Italia winner, Ryder Hesjedal, to their global athlete team, he has been seen sporting some unique POC Did shades during recent stage races. Surely, POC is developing more road bike friendly shades as part of their AVIP line (lets hope).

Advanced head protection is on the minds of many cyclists and other manufacturers have been slowly releasing MIPS helmet designs (POC Trabec Race MIPS, Scott Lin MIPS). I’m told the new AVIP Octal road helmet (shown below) will not, however, feature MIPS, but a slew of other safety features that will be new to the road scene. Looking forward to more information on these shortly.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (August 23, 2013) – POC is proud to share AVIP – its most ambitious initiative to date, promoting safety for road bike cyclists. AVIP stands for Attention, Visibility, Interaction and Protection and is POC’s first specific road bike range.

With the hazardous reality of sharing the roads with motorists, the need for proactive safety and protection is more evident than in most other cases. Swedish company POC, with its mission of saving lives and reducing the consequences of accidents for gravity sports athletes and cyclists, has since its start in 2005 addressing the ski and MTB market and developed a strong reputation for gravity sports protection.

POC is now proud to share AVIP, their first specific road bike range. AVIP stands for Attention, Visibility, Interaction and Protection and is a concept, which has been created in collaboration with some of the best minds in science, health and technology.

“With a holistic view on the risks involved with road cycling, being able to investigate and coming up with solutions to avoid and dealing with accidents and even managing post situations, is what drives us at POC”, says Stefan Ytterborn, POC founder and CEO.

Besides developing high performance helmets, the intention has been to contribute new ideas, innovations and solutions for improved road bike safety, protection and performance. These have been built on understanding the behavior within defined environments and interaction with other people, vehicles and landscapes.

“Our cross-scientific approach has allowed us to promote safety by incorporating perception, psychology, electronics and biodynamic, without compromising performance. If we can improve safety and contribute to redefining aspects of the future of road bike cycling, we will accomplish our vision to bring meaning and difference to our users.”, says Stefan Ytterborn.

The complete AVIP range, including helmets, apparel, eyewear, accessories and digital solutions, will be presented during Eurobike in Friedrichshafen (August 28-31) and Interbike in Las Vegas (September 18-20).
