As tubeless road wheelsets have become commonplace, more and more tubeless road tire options have become available. Yes, there are a variety of “standards” out there, but the latest crop of tubeless road tires are flat-out awesome in every way. And, with a brand like Goodyear entering the ring, the Eagle F1 30c tires are impressive.

There’s something about Goodyear on the sidewalls
No doubt, Goodyear is the most iconic brand when it comes to tires. Their extensive car racing heritage certainly has tricked into their cycling tire lineup and the latest Tubeless Complete set of road tires. Using a proprietary compound, the Eagle F1 tubeless road tires are made for fast-rolling performance on today’s modern, disc-brake road bikes. I opted for the middle-ground 30mm width and mounted them to a set of Bontrager Aeolus Pro 37 TLR wheels (which have the optimal 21mm internal width) and ran them aboard both the Open UPPER and 3T Exploro RaceMax throughout the test period.

With all tubeless road tires, the sweet spot is a tire that mounts without levers, but one that still fits tight enough to make inflation a breeze. These check both of those boxes as I could (with a little elbow grease) pop them onto the rims without the use of a lever. I then dropped about 60ml of Orange Seal tubeless sealant and have been off to the races. The combination of the Bontrager Aeolus Pro 37 wheels and Goodyear’s Tubeless Complete, Dual Angle bead is like peanut butter and jelly. Once seated, these tires nary lose much air at all compared to other road tubeless tires.

I did use the Blackburn Chamber Tubeless Floor Pump for initial seating using a little bit of soapy water for good measure, still they delivered one of the better tubeless experiences to date. I’d put these high on the tubeless easy scale overall.
The shape of the tires on 21mm internal rims is a little more egg-shaped than I’d hope for. I thought they would have more of a rounded profile, but it’s egg-like for sure. After several months of use, they did widen out from 29.5mm to 30.5mm by my measurements. So, expect some stretching with use.

For my 170 lb rider weight, I’m running 55-58 psi. and comfort levels are superb. And, traction is as expected. The previous photo was taken after riding some steep, slippery, construction-riddled roads and they did lose traction a few times while climbing a. Under normal riding conditions and temperatures, the Dynamic:GSR rubber grips well when pushed. Rolling efficiency seems good overall, but nothing stands out as being top-of-the-class here. I haven’t had any punctures and the sidewalls appear to be as good as new.
As testing has continued in 2021, I’ve since ridden these extensively on the Zipp 303s wheelset. Their 23 mm internal width and the shape remains more egg-like. Still, I appreciate the comfort and grip with these wider wheels as well and the tubeless setup remains drop-dead easy.
I did notice that the tires stiffened up a bit when temperatures dipped into the low-40’s and 30’s. Perhaps the rubber on the Vector 4-seasons might be better for cold conditions? Sounds like I need to give that a whirl.
The Good
- Easy tubeless setup
- Holds air extremely well
- Good 3-season road feel
- Wearing very well
- Excellent tire protection
- Competitive weight
The Bad
- Stiffen up at colder temperatures
- Shape isn’t as round as I’d like at their recommended inner rim width
The Bottom Line: Goodyear Eagle F1 30c Tubeless Tires
Goodyear knows a thing or two about rubber and it shows. As far as tubeless setup and performance goes, the Eagle F1’s are awesome. They held air like champs and rode comfortably at lower pressures. I loved the traction during warmer months, but did find them to get a little stiff at the coldest temperatures.
