Tour of Utah: Stage 2 Start at Thanksgiving Point

Jason MitchellBy Jason MitchellAugust 20, 20093 Comments1 Min Read

I slipped over to the start of Stage 2 of the Tour of Utah and wandered around the team vehicles. Talk about awesome bikes! Plenty of eye candy and talented riders as we wandered around waiting for the start.

The man in yellow, Francisco Mancebo, was strutting the yellow jersey. The grueling 20 mile climb up the Mt. Nebo Loop will be the judge as to whether or not the Rock Racing stud will be golden this afternoon. Other teams are swarming and ready to help their best climbers make it to the top of the Loop.

It was fun listening to Mr. Cycling, Bob Roll, give commentary this morning as the riders lined up at the start. The vibe is strong and interest in road racing is getting stronger again here in the States, thanks to Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer and Utahn David Zabriskie. I just noticed that Zabriskie’s profile now contains a Livestrong armband and he is also riding solo at the Tour of Utah… could he be leaving Garmin-Slipstream to join Lance and Levi on Team RadioShack? Hmmm…

Darren Lill is apparently all alone leading the pack up the Mt Nebo Loop with less than 20k to go. Team Type1 is stoked! More updates later.

Looks like Darren Lill of @TeamType1 held on to take Stage 2 with a time of 3:19:21. It appears that unofficially, Francisco Mancebo of @RockRacing will retain the yellow jersey since he was up on Lill by 1:01 at the start.
