2005 Granite Gear Pileus Backcountry Skiing Backpack

Jason MitchellBy Jason MitchellFebruary 5, 2005No Comments2 Mins Read

Granite Gear has consistently focused on doing one thing… building bombproof gear that’s durable and functional. We’ve tested a few Granite Gear products over the years and have found their packs to be simple, functional and durable in the backcountry. This year, Granite Gear has moved away from some product lines like gloves to focus their pack line.

Founders Jeff Knight and Dan Cruikshank are passionate about gear and love to show off the new product at Outdoor Retailer. All Granite Gear products are backed by a no-nonsense guarantee to ensure your satisfaction. These guys believe in their products!

    Pileus Backcountry Ski Pack
Named after the cap-shaped clouds that constantly hover over mountains like Mt. Rainier, the Pileus pack is a durable and functional backcountry partner for all-around ski touring. Right at 1800 cu. in., the Granite Gear Pileus pack is the perfect size for a day in the mountains.

What’s really new about the Pileus for Granite Gear is it’s their first backcountry skiing pack that can house all your gear inside of their own pockets for a stealth and snag-free design. No need to worry about your shovel handle or probes hanging outside your pack, they are tucked neatly in the rear padded pocket with an easy-access center zip.

Granite Gear never misses a trick with their pack designs. While many backcountry ski packs don’t offer much in the way of suspension design, the new Pileus uses the same suspension design as the award-winning Vapor Trail for a comfortable ride up or down the hill. Look for the Granite Gear Pileus pack in the Fall of 05 for a mere $120.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Jason quickly developed a love for the outdoors and a thing for mountains. That infatuation continues as he founded this site in 1999 -- sharing his love of road biking, mountain biking, trail running and skiing. That passion is channeled into every article or gear review he writes. Utah's Wasatch Mountains are his playground.
