Black Diamond TV: The Forecaster, Drew Hardesty

    0
By Jason Mitchell on November 27, 2015 Skiing, Videos

We’re lucky enough to have some of the top avalanche forecasters in the world here in the Wasatch. This episode of Black Diamond TV features Drew Hardesty, who has been with the Utah Avalanche Center since 1999. The man is a legend and wise beyond wise when it comes to backcountry travel.

This video should serve as a reminder to all of us that we need to consider the implications of our choices in the backcountry. Avoiding groupthink, getting away from danger zones and playing it safe when conditions are sketchy. We all appreciate the long hours of lonely trail breaking and on-point analysis of the Wasatch snowpack every year and love the soothing voice of Mr Hardesty when dialing into the forecast center before every dawn patrol. Be safe out there, my friends.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Jason quickly developed a love for the outdoors and a thing for mountains. That infatuation continues as he founded this site in 1999 -- sharing his love of road biking, mountain biking, trail running and skiing. That passion is channeled into every article or gear review he writes. Utah's Wasatch Mountains are his playground.
