    Bridgedale Lightweight Ski Socks Review

Jason MitchellBy Jason MitchellJanuary 18, 2010No Comments3 Mins Read

As one of the foremost sock manufacturers, Bridgedale produces a wide variety of socks using a myriad of natural and synthetic materials. The result is a sock for everyone and a sock for every activity. When it comes to ski socks, I lean towards the ultralight end of the spectrum for best overall fit and control. Over the past year, I’ve been using a few different Bridgedale ski socks and have been very impressed with each one.

My first introduction to the Bridgedale ski sock line was a year ago at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2009. Literally, I had no idea that any single sock manufacturer could have such a variety of fits, fabrics and styles. I’ve since used the Precision Fit, Control Fit and Ultra Fit ski socks in a few different ski boots and really like each one. All are constructed using a high percentage of Merino wool for soft comfort and warmth and feature “anatomical knitting” for precise foot, ankle and shin fit.

Bridgedale Precision Fit Ski Socks Review

These socks have been my “go-to” socks with my Dynafit Titan backcountry ski boots. I’ve appreciated a little extra thickness than typical (I typically wear an ultra-thin Merino Smartwool ski sock)–especially in the shins. These socks feel extra-soft next to the skin and provide a little extra warmth for those ultra-cold 5:00 am Dawn Patrols.

    Materials:

    • 40% Merino Wool
    • 39% Endurofil™/polypropylene
    • 19% Nylon/polyamide
    • 2% Lycra®/elastane
    • Colors: Gunmetal/Apple, Gunmetal/Poppy, Dove Grey/Black
    • MSRP: $20 – more info

Bridgedale Control Fit Ski Socks Review

A style available in the USA only (not really sure why), the Control Fit is a very innovative mixture of materials and construction. I used these socks with my Head World Cup Ti ski boots as they are very difficult to get in and out of. The nylon heel and top of forefoot allowed easy entry/exit of my tight ski boots and the rest of the materials and cushioning offered superb fit and control. These socks are also highly-recommended for backcountry skiing (especially my telemark brethren) because of their blister-preventing nylon heels.

    Materials:

    • 33% Endurofil™/polypropylene
    • 33% Merino Wool/Laine Merino
    • 33% Nylon/polyamide
    • 1% Lycra®/elastane
    • Colors: Black/Stone, Stone/Navy
    • MSRP: $22 – more info

Bridgedale Ultra Fit Ski Socks Review

The Bridgedale Ultra Fit ski socks are more along the lines of my typical ski sock, but with a little extra cushioning and support than just a straight sock. The Merino wool and Endurofil combination provides excellent ski feel and fits well in my custom-molded Surefoot ski boots.

    Materials:

    • 38% Merino Wool
    • 38% Endurofil™/polypropylene
    • 22% Nylon/polyamide
    • 2% Lycra®/elastane
    • Colors: Black, Dove Grey
    • MSRP: $25 – more info
