Utah Avalanche Center Party at Black Diamond

Kendall CardBy Kendall CardSeptember 5, 2007No Comments2 Mins Read

black diamond You know winter is just around the corner when the annual Utah Avalanche Center (UAC) fundraising party rolls around. Hosted each year by Black Diamond, this the 14th year will undoubtedly not disappoint. Last year this event was attended by nearly 700 backcountry enthusiasts raising more than $33,000 for the UAC.

For me this annual event signals a turning of the seasons, the first evening in what feels like ages to talk about last year’s lines, powder days and what’s on the tick list this season. Additionally it provides a chance to renew friendships with fellow backcountry skiers whom I only see throughout the winter. Despite the springtime promises of “let’s get out and climb this summer” the real passion we share in common is backcountry skiing in the Wasatch.

But most importantly this event is a chance to toss some hard earned dollars in the bucket to support the UAC who provides daily avalanche and backcountry reports backed by tireless and often thankless hours of effort.

With beverages from Uinta Brewing, Mexican food provided by Rico and music by Red Top Wolverine Show it’s more than worth the $30 before/$35 at the door entrance fee. You’ll get a meal ticket, raffle ticket, the coveted beer ticket and who knows, perhaps you’ll win something at the silent auction. See you there.
