SRAM to Launch XX1 1×11 Drivetrain

Built for XC and endurance racers, the upcoming launch of the SRAM XX1 drivetrain looks awesome. Let’s see… remove the front derailleur from the equation, install an 11-speed wide-range cassette, get a new Type-2 rear derailleur and head for the races. No more annoying front derailleur rub and instantly drop a few hundred grams and potentially a few hundred bucks (no front derailleur or shifter) — the crowd goes wild.

Now, the reality is that the XX1 grouppo is purpose-built and may not find a warm welcome with the masses, but that’s not the point. For the XC racing crowd, this should be heaven-sent. And, with the dinner plate in the back, the gear ratios should be low enough for strong riders to power through any terrain.

With the worldwide launch happening July 9 at Crankworx Les 2 Alpes, all I have are some images and a few bullet points. Here’s what I know.

• 1×11 drivetrain built for enduro and XC racing
• Uses SRAM’s new Type 2 rear derailleur and chain management
• Will be compatible with both Grip Shift and triggers
• It has the widest range cassette available (check out the dinner plate granny), rumored to be 10-42T
• Worldwide launch at Crankworx Les 2 Alpes, July 9-15
