If you’ve ever been to a World Cup or Olympic downhill race, you understand first-hand how extremely dangerous competitive downhill racing is. These guys and gals are hauling down the steepest slopes arcing turns at 80 mph and winning or losing by a fraction of a second. They are riding a thin line between being on the top of their game and being hauled off in a stretcher.
The legends like Kjetil André Aamodt, Franz Klammer, Lasse Kjuss, Hermann Maier, Phil Mahre, Daron Rahlves, Bode Miller and Picabo Street make it look easy to the common man, but believe me… downhill racing is as far from “easy” as it gets. These guys train methodically for years, hurl themselves down 50-degree slopes at over 90 mph year round. They are committed and they have to be… or else, they don’t walk off the mountain.

I got a chance to see a pre-screening of “The Thin Line: Life on the Edge” and I can tell you it will be well worth your time. I’ve been to an Olympic downhill race and have watched numerous World Cup and Olympic dowhnill races over the years. I’ve got a huge amount of respect for these athletes. This documentary provides an awesome look into their minds and the most challenging courses in the world. Mark your calendars and schedule your DVR because this is something you’ll want to watch again and again.

im almost 14 and i ski race ive only done super g but this year imm old enuff 2 race downhill me and my frends r stoked i alos dowhnill bike and that is just the same only on a bike it is the same felling they both rok

Last year was my first year of FIS and i got a chance to race in the Mont Ste. Anne Downhill and Super-G races. All i can say is the downhill was defiantly the greatest experience of my life so far, so much speed and adrenaline it was unreal! i cant wait to do it all over again this season.

Also… that’s awesome that you were on the FIS this past season! I can’t even imagine carving along at that speed on those courses!
