Stay cool and be cool
Ahh, the ubiquitous plaid shirt. They are everywhere and available in a myriad of colors, patterns and fabrics. So, what makes the Toad&Co Ventilair LS shirt so different? Well, it’s not so much that it’s entirely-different, but it does have enough touches to make it stand out in the crowd.

So, onto the Ventilair. First impressions are key to every relationship — including the one with your clothing. I slipped on the Ventilair and it immediately fit me perfectly. At 5’11” and 170 lbs, I went with the medium and that was the ticket. For some brands, a medium fits everywhere except sleeve length and large has me swimming. Here, I’ve got perfect chest fit and both sleeve and hem length are absolutely spot-on.
The modern plaid design is kind of a mixture of faded/pixelated designs and it just looks awesome. On test has been the Blue Abyss color and it does an excellent job of delivering style in the office, traveling or at the trailhead. In fact, I love it as a travel shirt because it both breathes well when things get warm on the trail and adds warmth for those cold cross-country flights. Additionally, the sleeves and shoulders are quite comfortable underneath a backpack.
There is a hidden, zippered left chest pocket that’s suitable for a credit card or two, but that’s about it. And, like all Toad&Co shirts, you get a constant reminder to live “Everyday Outside.” The organic cotton/poly mix is said to help cool the body by 1-3 degrees F. I can say that in direct sun, the Ventilair always feels quite nice and comfortable. The weight of the fabric is just right as it just feels airy and light on the body.
I’ve not noticed any shrinkage over time and goodness knows I don’t do anything special with it in a house full of six people (there’s no delicate cycle or any of that and it’s a win of darks and lights get separated).
