The Velocio LUXE Bib Shorts have long been a staple in their lineup. For this year, they tightened up the length for a unified fit. The rest of the shorts have also been revised and tweaked for even more comfort — for even the longest rides.

LUXE’d up bib shorts

Two years ago, I put the LUXE V2 Bib Shorts through their paces and loved the overall fit and function, but I did have a couple of bones to pick — including the added length. For 2025, Velocio has ditched the two lengths of the LUXE and settled for a Goldilocks leg length that keeps things long and modern while at the same time not requiring you to have legs as long as Kareem Abdul-Jabaar to ride them. With a “just right” inseam, the revised LUXE fits great and sits just at the right spot on my things.

Pulling them on is straightforward. I do have to inch each leg upwards to my knees, then carefully pull them into position while situating the uppers. With the new uppers, the wide straps have a lot to offer. They stretch nicely, but also remain tight enough to ensure the lowers are always pulled into the proper position. Velocio’s designers don’t pull any tricks with the straps — just a mesh center attachment at the back and standard anchor placement in the front. These smooth straps move comfortably across my skin and don’t cause any chafing or rubbing on my shoulders or chest.

One of the much-appreciated design updates for 2025 is the added height of the shorts to provide added coverage. Try as I might, my 50-yr-old midsection isn’t quite as svelte as it was 25 years ago, so a little help from the LUXE is appreciated. My midsection is contained and coverage is achieved with the variety of jerseys I’ve paired them with (Merino LUXE Jersey and Signature Jersey).

What hasn’t changed is the leg-contouring design and proper compression. Each leg is excellently enveloped with minimal seams for all-day comfort. They haven’t quite mastered the no-seam approach employed by the Assos Equipe R S11 Bib Shorts, but the seam placement and construction goes unnoticed on long rides. The fabric has been durable enough for regular and multi-day use. I’ve tried my best not to dry them, but I’m about 50% successful these days in our busy household.

The laser-cut leg openings are simple and clean and the dashed silicone grips cover the last couple inches with secure leg hold that doesn’t overdo it. There’s a delicate balance between not enough and too much leg grip and the Velocio LUXE nails that balance in a way that keeps them in place throughout road, gravel and mountain bike rides.

When hopping on the bike, it does take a few minutes for the chamois to get decidedly situated for chafe-free riding. It’s not uncommon to have to do a few laps in the neighborhood to get these situated. That same thing does happen with other shorts, but I do notice it a little more with the LUXE. Once properly sorted, I can ride comfortably all day long and going in/out of the saddle doesn’t change things. The chamois itself is solid and its performance is commensurate with the price. The Cytech chamois not only provides solid comfort, but it breathes well and remains comfortable across a variety of saddles and positions (fully-seated, hanging on the nose on a steep climb or standing). It’s subtle, but the little rib around the outside of the chamois helps keep my butt in place as I’m moving around.
