In my humble opinion, Mt Timpanogos is the biggest gem of Utah’s Wasatch Mountains. It’s not the tallest (that belongs to Mt Nebo), but it’s certainly the most impressive and visible. Part of that is due to the fact that the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway circumnavigates the 11,752′ peak. The other part of that is due to its sheer prominence and visibility from Salt Lake, Provo, Heber City and beyond.
The Cold Fusion couloir is a long (~3,000′ vert), sustained avalanche slide path off the 11,441′ North Peak of Timpanogos. With a stout approach and a long ascent, with some tricky spots, Cold Fusion is still an uncommon route, but one that Cody Townsend and crew were stoked to nab.
With this one literally being a handful of miles from my doorstep, it’s impressive. I know just how big this line is and how much effort it takes. Kudos to The FIFTY squad for nabbing this gem.
