Premium LS Jersey Unlocked
Le Col is no stranger to quality cycling kits and my experience has been excellent with everything tested so far. As a late-spring arrival, the Le Col Pro Long Sleeve Jersey has gotten limited use until recently. But, I did pull it out a few days in the summer. Heading into shoulder season, it’s become my staple for both road and gravel rides.
Le Col’s fabric of choice is a stretchy affair that fits perfectly. Every inch of this jersey offers a snug next-to-body feel and that lightly-brushed interior turns an otherwise smooth face into just a touch of added comfort. Hem length is spot-on and passes the raised-arms test with flying colors. The sleeve length is good, but could be just a touch longer for added coverage. I love the low-profile collar that stays out of the way for a modern fit and feel. The fit is great with or without a base layer (like the Pactimo Summit SL) or under a lightweight vest on colder mornings.

The front zip is easily pulled up and down with the outstanding zipper pull (a nice touch). I only unzipped it on one long climb, but otherwise, I kept it zipped up. My sample green color does showcase where the moisture moves to on my body after a long climb in up American Fork Canyon. As expected, we’re talking the chest and underarms, but that moisture does dissipate quickly on the descent or after those hard efforts.
With its smooth face fabric, the Pro Long Sleeve does block the wind just enough to take the edge off and allow the fabric to provide added warmth. By no means is this a “thermal” jersey, so don’t expect a ton of heat retention. Instead, it’s perfect for cool summer mornings in the mountains and even into mid-day rides for added sun protection. To extend its versatility, I’d like to see Le Col offer the Pro Long Sleeve in white for more summer capability. The GOREWEAR Spinshift LS does offer a touch more next-to-skin comfort if you want something a little cozier. But, it’s not nearly as racy as the Pro Long Sleeve.

I can wear it multiple times between washing (bonus) and it is wearing quite well, with no signs of use after repeated uses and washings. Like any bike kits, do your best to spare it from the dryer and either lay flat or drape somewhere to dry it.

Of course, it features three jersey pockets with a zippered sleeve. The sleeve is suitable for a wallet or cards only and features water-resistant lining. The rear pockets are decent size, but don’t expect to act like a Sherpa and stuff them to the gills. The fabric and pocket shape are limiting factors of how much you can haul in them. Stuffing my favorite Assos Equipe R Gilet in there is surprisingly-challenging (but it does barely fit). Speaking of the pockets, the center one features a large reflector-style stripe for added visibility during low-light conditions and even during the day. Because every little bit counts.
Fit: I’m 5’11” and 178 lbs., wearing the size medium (usual Le Col size).

The Bottom Line
The Le Col Pro Long Sleeve Jersey delivers a racy, next-to-skin fit with just enough warmth for cool mornings and shoulder-season rides. Its lightly-brushed interior adds comfort, while the smooth face fabric balances wind resistance and breathability. I definitely wouldn't call it cozy, but it is racy and efficient. Also, it's not a thermal piece, but remains excellent for fast rides when you want coverage without bulk.
The Good:
- Streamlined fit for aero speed
- Collar height and diameter is just right
- Fabric offers a touch of wind protection
- Breathes as expected and dries quickly
- Hooray for zipper pulls for easy up/down
The Bad:
- Pockets are cramped
- Sleeves could be just a teeny bit longer
- The price is steep
- Fit
- Function
- Breathability
- Value
