Last year, Cannondale athletes Alison Jackson, Ted King and Laura King raced the all-new Cannondale SuperX at the UCI Gravel World Championships in Flemish Brabant, Belgium. Yes, the SuperX. Cannondale’s long-time cyclocross bike is now a svelte and optimized gravel racer. And, it’s also Cannondale’s cyclocross bike. Let’s dig in a little and cover all the things you’re asking — tire clearance, BB standards and more.
Since the SuperX is Cannondale’s gravel race bike, it’s now available in their top-tier LAB71 frameset as a frame-only and complete, no-holds-barred build. With three available options, the SuperX LAB71 is a whopping $15,000 while the standard SuperX Carbon 2 and 3 are $6200 and $4800 complete, respectively. Cannondale’s LAB71 frames don’t mess around by delivering a lighter (~100 grams) and smoother ride on par with the top gravel bikes on the market.
Cannondale has long been a pioneer in optimizing carbon layup to deliver micro-suspension (what they have called SAVE). One of the most obvious areas where comfort is achieved is the curved and flattened seat tube, rear triangle, top tube and the D-shaped seatpost. Not only is the frame aero optimized, but it’s built to absorb shock and vibration to optimize comfort over the endless drone of gravel routes. Of course, tire clearance is increased too. With up to 48mm wide clearance on the frame and 51mm on the fork, you could roll a plump 45c in the rear and a 50c up front.
Rounding things out, the new SuperX is also UDH-compatible, so you’ll see it initially with the new SRAM Red XPLR 13-speed, but it can also work with a SRAM mullet or any upcoming drivetrains.
