Open MIN.D. Takes to the Road

Jason MitchellBy Jason MitchellMay 22, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

Wait… what!?!? A pure road bike from Open? In a twist, the purveyors of gravel bike excellence have taken aim at the ideal modern road bike. With roots at Cervelo and BMC, Gerard Vroomen and Andy Kessler know a thing or two about making road bikes. And, let’s be honest, pure road bikes are still an absolute blast to ride — especially with 30-32mm road tires.

A great view of the goodness of the Open MIN.D.

The Open MIN.D. is made to crush every local road you can find. At a mere 870 grams (minimum weight), you can easily get a build that will blow your MIN.D. Just like every other Open model, the frame lacks suspension, inserts or visible technical wizardry to make it comfortable. Instead, it uses Open’s (tongue-in-cheek) TRCinTRS to place the right types of carbon in the right places on the frame for optimal stiffness, comfort and durability.

So, what is the Open MIN.D.? It’s a road bike done Open-style, so there’s always something special. Up front, the R-Turn fork claims to be the lightest road disc fork on the market and uses Open’s Smartmount caliper mount to eliminate adapters. On top of that, the seat tube is a svelte 25mm and uses an integrated topcap that can be adjusted as much as 35mm, should you sell your MIN.D. in the future.

The Open MIN.D. frameset will sell for $3600 and can be pre-ordered now with delivery by July 20.
