Merrell Trimaran Shirt Review
The first thing I typically do when encountering a product name I don’t recognize is to look up the meaning. So what’s a trimaran, you ask? Turns out it’s a boat. A multi-hulled boat thought to originate from native Polynesians, to be exact. What does that have to do with a running shirt? Um … I have no idea.
Maybe it implies smoothness – which would work, since Merrell’s Opti-Wick fabric has an inherently soft feel against the skin. The Trimaran uses flatlock seam construction, and places seams in offset low-stress areas (i.e. not directly through the armpit or straight down the side) that virtually eliminates chafing on high-mileage runs.
Maybe the name has an island connotation – which could work as well, since the fabric dries quickly and wicks moisture very effectively to keep you comfortable even in hot and humid conditions. I’ve also worn this shirt as a base layer under a thin jacket on cool mornings, and been very happy with temperature regulation throughout a multi-hour outing.
Styling of the Trimaran is basic and sharp – especially the cobalt or charcoal colors – making the Trimaran a good-looking shirt for wearing around after your workout if you don’t have time to change. The polyester will retain some odor once your sweat evaporates, but if you keep a proper distance from folks you’ll get along just fine.

I am probably going to get this shirt because you said it minimized chaffing. That was such annoying problem for me until I reduced it by shortening my arm swings while running. What are those sandals you are running in in the picture?
