When four riders (Lael Wilcox, Erik Nohlin, Rugile Kaladyte, and Chris Burkard) planned a trip through the American West, adventure was high on the list. And so it was, as renowned photographer, Chris Burkhard and a stellar crew ventured off, searching for anything they could find on two wheels or two feet.
The result is a great little film, documenting their trip around the outside, called “The Long Way Around.” Truly, the line between gravel, adventure, bikepacking and hiking is heavily blurred here, but the smiles make it all worthwhile.
I got to peek at the Komoot file to see just where they rode. The route included almost 180 miles with over 22,000 ft. of climbing. Yeah, it was stout. This mixed road adventure took them through Giant Sequoia National Monument and Sequoia National Park. What a ride!
