Bruce Tremper is one of the premiere avalanche forecasters in the world. His field work in Utah’s Wasatch mountains provides all backcountry travelers with a great start towards making smart choices in the backcountry. Take some time and read the Utah Avalanche Center’s Daily Report before heading out. That’s obvious.
But, once you get out there, do you know what else to look for and be careful of? I’m definitely no expert, but I try to keep myself on top of all current conditions and always use the safest route-finding and skiing practices. You can never be 100% safe, but then again, you can never be 100% safe driving a car down the road. The nice thing (as Bruce says at the end of the video) is that with backcountry skiing, at least YOU are the one that’s in control and YOU are the one making the decision to ski or not to ski a certain line.

Jas,
Nice work! Is this posted anywhere else? Working with some other avalanche forecasters and educators to possibly compile and deliver such videos in one place.
Well, I can’t take credit for the video. It was done for/with the UAC. I just came across it and thought it was an awesome video with the man, Bruce Tremper. Lots of great info. It’s awesome to see him at work digging a pit and walk through his concerns. Very cool guy and super-knowledgeable of the area’s avie concerns.
