The performance of the “optimal” XC racing fork has been all over the place through the years. What was once a nuisance and eye candy to please sponsors has now become a competitive advantage. Some attempts at a lightweight XC fork have resulted in a choppy ride, at best, just to deliver a lightweight design.
For 2017, Fox Racing has re-designed their XC-specific platform calling it Fox 32 SC. SC stands for Step-Cast and one look at the fork and you’ll see why. The lower legs are stepped to reduce the length of the internals and reduce the overall unit weight. Going this route also optimizes lower leg stiffness while still accommodating two axle widths and up to 180mm (27.5) or 203mm (29er) rotor size.
As you can see, the profile of the fork has been narrowed by 10mm total to tighten things up for razor-sharp handling. Doing so did reduce tire clearance to 2.3″, but the stepped legs are still built to accommodate Boost 110 spacing, if desired.
