2015 Norco Threshold SL ‘Cross Bike Raises the Bar

Jason MitchellBy Jason MitchellMay 16, 2014No Comments3 Mins Read

Both road and CX bikes are in the middle of technological limbo. Disc brakes or rim brakes? Thru axles or standard QR’s? The conundrum continues on, but Norco’s roots in North Shore “freeride” firmly puts them into the “disc brakes and thru axles” camp — even for cyclocross and perhaps even on the road (we’ll see). For 2015, Norco went for a complete re-design on their Threshold CX bike.

The goal was to make a North Shore-friendly CX bike that can handle the wet, muddy and sloppy conditions found in British Columbia and on cyclocross courses worldwide. Talk about a thing of beauty… the new Threshold is one smart looker (the red is even better, IMO).

While the full-carbon model will get all the attention, the same features trickle down to the aluminum models with a wide array of pricing and parts kits.

Key Features of the 2015 Norco Threshold SL

    • Size-scaled tubing for size-specific performance targets
    • Hi-mod carbon fork with 15mm thru axle
    • ARC Race seat stays borrow from the Tactic road bike
    • GIZMO universal internal cable routing
    • ArmorLite resin for improved impact resistance
    • Power Chassis design for a stout power transmission
    • 142×12 rear thru axle
    • Available in an array of Shimano drivetrains

    In the Words of Norco

Norco Bicycles is thrilled to introduce the all-new 2015 Threshold, our fully redesigned cyclocross race platform. The new model features a sub-1000g carbon frame, full thru axle design, disc brakes, GIZMO cable routing system and a striking new paint job.

Norco’s cyclocross race machine was designed and developed on Canada’s Pacific Coast: a region characterized by rugged landscapes and abundant precipitation. The all-new Threshold is a product of our demanding environment and a symbol of Norco’s distinctly Canadian take on the cyclocross tradition. Tested on the trails and proven on the racecourse, the 2015 Threshold is how Norco does cyclocross.

We’ve long been known as a leader in mountain bikes. When it comes to CX, we recognized years ago that many of the technologies and frame features that make our mountain bikes exceptional could be carried over to our cyclocross program: lateral frame stiffness for explosive acceleration; thru axles for railing through rutted corners and holding lines; snappy, precise handling for maneuvering through variable terrain; disc brakes for the confidence to ride faster and push harder in all conditions.

Look closely at the new Threshold and you cannot miss the MTB influence. What can we say? It’s in our blood.
