Colnago V5Rs US Launch In Monterey, CA

All-new Colnago V5Rs — Built to Win. More.

Jason MitchellBy Jason MitchellApril 16, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

While at the 2025 Sea Otter Classic, I was given a preview of the latest all-rounder from Colnago. In a beautiful warehouse, filled with Italian sports cars, the Colnago team unveiled the all-new V5Rs to a group of journalists, salespeople and dealers. The array of Colnago bikes — current and past — was impressive and the new V5Rs was the star of the show.

Like any new all-rounder, the new V5Rs continues to push the envelope of design to achieve maximum performance. It weighs an astounding 12.5% less via optimized carbon layup and changing back to a BSA bottom bracket. Key to the new layups are all-new mandrels that compress the layup and provide a level of interior tube finishing that was simply not achievable before. Not only is it clean, but it’s lighter and more consistent too.  A 485 size frame and fork now weighs 1027 grams and the frameset alone a mere 685 grams. The Real Riding Stiffness of the V5Rs is aligned with the V4Rs, so I would expect a similar ride as the outgoing model.

Aero touches, but optimized for a responsive ride.

Aerodynamics is a key part of the overall performance story — with a 13% reduced frontal area and overall tube shapes for a 5W savings (bike alone at 50 km/h. Ride manners are claimed to be slightly more aggressive and efficient to match today’s fast riding positions. Overall geometry is similar to the V4Rs. It remains a race bike, 100%, with a ride quality to match and win. While it doesn’t have the widest tire clearance, it can swallow 32mm tires for added comfort and confidence.
