    Fresh Wheels: Merida Scultura Disc

    0
By Jason Mitchell on April 22, 2016 News, Road & Gravel

Ahead of this year’s Paris-Roubaix, team Lampre-Merida broke new ground by being the first WorldTour team to ride entirely on disc brakes. The bike they rode was the all-new Merida Scultura CF4 — a racy, but comfortable all-rounder. Unfortunately, it may be a few months or years before we’ll see disc brakes in the professional peloton, but that shouldn’t stop us non-racers from enjoying the benefits of both a fast and comfortable bike and outstanding braking capabilities.

Unfortunately, Merida still doesn’t distribute their bikes in the United States, so our friends across the pond will get to enjoy this one.

Some of the notable features of the Scultura Disc:

    • CF4 features professional geometry while the CF2 is great for the rest of us
    • Disc Cooler fins that reduce operating temperatures of the rear brake system
    • 12mm thru axles using R.A.T. axles licensed from Focus
    • Flat mount disc brakes
    • 28mm tire clearance
    • Frame weights: 900 grams (CF4), 1000 grams (CF2)

The unique Disc Cooler fins are said to notably dissipate braking temperatures.
