Departing from their aerodynamic roots, Cervelo is mixing things up with the introduction of the all-new C5. This bike is not quite an all-road bike, but instead is more of an endurance bike that’s built around discs and 28mm tires. The burgeoning gravel market (read our Santa Cruz Stigmata CC review) is hot and while Cervelo doesn’t necessarily want to call the C5 a gravel bike, I’m sure it’s well-suited in that environment.
Just one look at the frame and it is a complete departure (aesthetically) from everything we know and love about Cervelo. The C5 looks like many of the best gravel/endurance bikes on the market with dropped seatstays, taller stack, low BB and a slightly raked fork. Of course, this is a disc-first bike as well with thru axles and flat mount calipers.
What’s missing from the C5 is Cervelo’s trademark aerodynamics, but instead of aerodynamics, The C5 is said to be one of the lightest disc framesets on the market at 850 grams (56cm frame) — that’s pretty darn light!
While the C5 may not have the sexy race looks of the current Cervelo lineup, it certainly looks like a practical and fun bike for those seeking comfort and the latest in disc brakes. So long as you have deep pockets, this new bike can be yours — since this new bike doesn’t come cheap. Framesets are $4500 with Shimano Dura-Ace mechanical at $7000 and Dura-Ace Di2 coming in at a hefty $9000.
