Teva is one of the biggest names in the outdoor industry – the same company that brought the ‘amphibious utility sandal‘ to the world and headlined the Teva Mountain Games for years has a promising new shoe for all-mountain bikers. The Teva Pivot is aimed at gnarheads who earn their gravity and we snagged an early-release pair to put through its paces. We wanted to give you a taste of this newsmaker and we’ll follow up with a full review in about a month.
Teva probably said it best in their press pack – “We built the Pivot to be an All-Mountain shoe that climbs well, descends well, hikes well and looks terrible with spandex.” They partnered with world-class freerider Jeff Lenosky to develop a shoe that stays rock solid on big stuff but has the give to be able to walk comfortably. It’s a tricky balance, so how did Teva do? You’ll have to wait for the full review to know that.
The Pivot has a few tricks up its sleeves that you won’t find on any other shoe: a unique cleat attachment system and specially shaped midsole plate are designed to mitigate some of the problems that come with cycling shoes. A straightforward lacing design and wide velcro strap serve to keep the shoes on your feet, and the shoes look like normal street shoes – I’ve happily worn them around the supermarket after commuting back and forth.
