Lightweight Slayer: Canyon Neuron CF SLX 9.0 LTD

Canyon is no stranger to lightweight carbon fiber frames. With their SLX carbon layup, you can be sure to get the lightest, most responsive frame they make. While getting the SLX moniker does mean an increase in price, with Canyon’s direct-to-consumer business model, that high-end performance is significantly less than you’d find with comparable brands.

Heading into 2020, Canyon’s 130mm Neuron CF has now achieved the SLX treatment and this new lightweight trailbike hits the checkout register at a reasonable $6499 and weighs 25.8 lbs (size medium). That’s almost a full pound lighter and still $500 cheaper than the Neuron CF SL 9.0. The frame weight reduction of over 250 grams was achieved by using 40T UD Carbon fibers that also increase tensile strength.

I’d compare the Neuron to the venerable Santa Cruz Tallboy, Niner Jet 9 and others in the 120-140mm travel category, but the value packed into this lightweight trail crusher is insane. It is both lighter and cheaper (we’re talking thousands) than any other similarly-equipped bike on the market.

For a bike that can span the charts from XC to enduro, the “Goldilocks” 130mm travel Neuron looks like a ton of fun that will suit the needs of almost every rider. More travel than that really is overkill for most trails and riders, IMO. Look for availability soon.

With the Neuron CF SLX LTD, you get:

    • 2280 gram frame weight
    • 130mm travel front/rear
    • Full Shimano XTR 1×12 drivetrain
    • Shimano XTR brakes
    • Fox 34 Factory fork
    • RaceFace Next SL G5 carbon cranks
    • Fox Float DPS Factory shock
    • DT Swiss XMC 1200 carbon wheelset
    • Tinted black lacquer finish
    • 25.8 lbs (medium)
    • $6499
