The friendly folks at CLIF Bar realize that the holiday season can be filled with just as many adventures as the rest of the year; after all, outside the snow is falling and Frosty is burning a lot of calories in the cold weather. As is tradition, Clif is shipping out their holiday line of bars to stores around the nation, but this time there’s a new face at the festive table: Pecan Pie, just like momma used to make it.
Cliff’s website states that, “ The three limited-edition CLIF BARs join 16 year-round flavors, all made with organic, wholesome ingredients you can see and taste, such as fruit, nuts and oats. CLIF BARs also serve as a good source of protein and fiber, which help the body digest carbohydrates slowly to deliver sustained energy. What’s more, CLIF BARs don’t contain trans fats, hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup and artificial flavors, sweeteners and preservatives.”
The new Pecan Pie is crafted with 70% organic ingredients and features an attractive, nostalgic drizzle of icing. The bar does a good job balancing that pecan-pie sweetness with the balanced nutrition that we need in the backcountry; the bar tastes sweet and nutty, thanks in part to the whole pecans that can be found throughout the bar. The Pecan Pie bar offers 270 calories, 16g carbs and 9g protein, specially formulated to provide sustained energy. Pecan Pie happily joins the holiday CLIF gamut alongside Iced Gingerbread (my favorite) and Spiced Pumpkin Pie.
