Fresh Goods: Trek CHRGtime for All Your Electronics

Jason MitchellBy Jason MitchellMarch 8, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

Today’s bikes are full of electronics. Some are easily-charged while others may require proprietary charging cables or adapters. For everything using standard USB-A or USB-C cables, the Trek CHRGtime is a great way to keep up to six devices charged in a clean, orderly way. For $124.99, this new system can be at your bedside or workbench to always be ready for the next ride.

All sorts of electronics and a hidden message.

At the heart of the CHRGtime is a multi-port power supply that plugs into a wall outlet. Five are USB-A and only one is a native USB-C port. The power supply offers “smart” charging to turn off the juice when the device is fully-charged, which can easily be seen with each of the six LED’s on the front of the unit. Labeled stickers are provided to keep track of which cable is where and each of the four bins has a rubber cable port.

    Everything just sipping away.

After trying it with all varieties of bike electronics, I’m liking how it organizes and keeps everything nice and tidy. If you have just one bike, head unit and set of lights, it’s super clean. But, if you’re like me and have more than is reasonable, it’s easy to overstep the intended purpose of the Trek CHRGtime. Bulkier items can be challenging to get to sit nicely underneath the lid and sports watches can pose issues. I dropped the Polar Pacer Pro’s charging cable in there and watches aren’t the best to use with the CHRGtime, but I can finagle it in place sufficiently to close the lid.

A close-up of the rubber port and brushed material in each bin.

Trek has thought about some of those other devices and if you place this unit on your nightstand, your existing charging cables can be either routed through the unit or simply placed on top. The brushed material on the surface plays nicely with phones or watches and keeps them scratch-free. I have noticed that the front of the suede material is peeling up after a few days, so I’ll keep an eye out over time.

The CHRGtime does have a “space age” look to it and may not fit with everyone’s taste. I’d suggest something that’s black might be a little more adaptable to your own style and feng shui.
