Canyon is no stranger to the high performance-to-price ratio quadrant, but this is getting flat-out ridiculous. For 2021, the Canyon Ultimate is getting the ultralight treatment with an exclusive carbon fiber layup that believe it or not, required approval from Japan’s Defense Ministry to use. Did I say it was exclusive? Yes, it’s that exclusive.
The result is a limited-edition 2021 Canyon Ultimate CFR (Canyon Factory Racing) that hits the scales at a scant 675 grams for the medium frame and 285 grams for the fork. That puts the complete frame/fork at sub 1000 grams (960, in fact)! That’s wicked-light for a frame-only, so to have a complete come in at that weight is absolutely insane.
Canyon says this about the carbon fiber used:
“This incredible weight is achieved by applying quality ultra-high modulus pitch-based carbon fibres rarely seen in the industry. This layup is then applied to moulds with clinical precision, ensuring minimal fiber overlap to save material and thus precious grams. Lightness is essential to these builds, but so is durability, which his why all frames and forks exceed our rigorous testing standards.”
Here’s the catch, however (there always is). Only the single, all-rounder complete build (Ultimate CFR Disc Di2) will be available here in the States, but here’s what will be available here in the United States (in very limited quantities):

This is just the start, so we anticipate an expanded CFR treatment throughout the entire lineup in the coming years. All things considered, the price point is superb and the overall build is fantastic. And, at 14.33 lbs, you’ve forgotten all about the disc weight penalty.
