You know you drool over it at home and occasionally slip on over to their Web site and dream of it parked in your garage or sitting atop your car–ready for a date with your favorite ribbon of dirt. You see it in BIKE Magazine and check out review after review of it on MTBR.com or maybe here on FeedTheHabit.com. It’s your dream bike… the one you wish you could put on your American Express today, but have been holding off because you know better. Or because your wife has you on lockdown
Well, lets just pretend for a moment that money doesn’t matter… that you won the lottery or suddenly received an inheritance from a long-lost relative and now you can splurge. Your first indulgence would be a mountain bike, of course. And that new bike would be?
Turner Sultan 29er – My Dreambike
For me, that bike would be the Turner Sultan 29er. It’s an elusive bike, but one that comes replete with legendary Turner pedigree. It’s not a race bike… it’s a mountain bike. And, it’s got big hoops attached to a classic Turner frame and all it’s DW-Link goodness. On top of all the Turner details, the Sultan sports 120mm travel, so it’s not a short-travel race machine… it’s a mountain biker’s bike. It’s not going to be the lightest bike on the block, but I’m guessing… just guessing that it rides like pure goodness. That’s what makes it my dreambike because it’s elusive, but in my mind it seems just about perfect for my riding style.
The funny thing is on the 4th of July, here we were hauling the whole family from the Freedom Festival Parade in Provo, UT when out of the corner of my eye I spotted a Sultan chained to a fence. I nudged my wife and we had to go take a looksie… A bronze glimmer Sultan. I stared at it and my wife just shook her head. Someday she’ll understand.

Funny thing is – I just sent my wife a link to the site, particularly to read the last paragraph about seeing the prized beauty chained to the fence….
I keep telling her…hopefully some day – she’ll just get it!

Defuentes… definitely a stellar rig! I’m hoping to get on one to compare the AL vs Carbon.
Maverick Durance (but only w/ sweet DUC32 dual crown fork) or Specialized S-Works Enduro SL Carbon. Got as close as I can afford this year, buying a demo ’08 Enduro SL Expert. It may not be the dream, but the 150mm-travel-stll-under-30-lbs reality is better than anything else I’ve saddled.
Nice work on the Specialized Enduro SL… great bike. The Durance is a fun bike also. I rode the precursor to the Durance and loved it.
